Aaaaaaaaaaaand we're back!!!!!!

Hissing Tiles - Aces Read Me to Sleep This album inspired me to write music again, despite being in severe pain a lot of the time.  It's noise rock from Cincinnati.  The band was formerly named Gazer, but they changed it because of the obvious negative connotations that has.  In my opinion, that was a good move and I like their new name a lot.  Also, I think it bears mentioning that these guys have/had members of bands ranging from TILL PLAINS to SWIM TEAM to WHITE WALLS and even TWEENS.  But having been in good bands doesn't make a new one good.  So what about this album?  Well, their extremely tight noise rock DOESN'T jack the JESUS LIZARD like so many of their contemporaries.  And yes, I'll admit that I'm still becoming familiar with bands on AmRep and whatnot, but their sound is unique to me.  They are their own band, they are damned good, and they sound even better live.  Do yourself a favor and get this ahead of the physical rel...

SUPPRESSION will be in Cincinnati on June 29th!!!!!!!

Artwork by Nate Powell Official facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1737647809838304/ The parking for the Mockbee is basically wherever in the neighborhood you can do that.  Which is mostly near the Rake's End (thankfully there is a stoplight for a pedestrian crossing for Central Parkway there and it gives you a good amount of time to cross the road).  Remember, the poorly-designed bike lanes make it so you can't park along much of Central Parkway now.

ETHICIST ruled tonight

Image
It was among their best.  Started on-time (what the heck?! NOT METAL!!! ;) and was the three-person lineup.  Haven't seen them do that in awhile.  Their "reverb-as-a-weapon" (as I call it) post-black attack was in full effect.  It was incredible and something I really needed after having such a difficult week.  Mucho grande thanks to everyone involved.  I had to leave after their set and the walk back to a bus stop was incredibly painful even with my cane, but it was totally worth it.  Listened to some Christian worship music when I came back and relaxed in my recliner with my cat. And yes, in case you didn't know, I am a Christian.  Converted to Catholicism a couple years ago out of Evangelical Christianity.  Was an athiest-in-denial until age fourteen.  Not too concerned with an afterlife; more concerned with what's going on in my life now.  Found contentment through it, but nowhere else.  Why else would I be one?...

Photo by Bradley R. Foster. The Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC) is using strong-arm tactics to force people from the Metropole Apartments, according to a civil-rights lawsuit filed Aug. 18 in federal court. The complaint by the Metropole Tenants Association alleges 3CDC used Cincinnati Police officers to harass and intimidate residents . The complaint also alleges that the sale of the subsidized low-income apartment building was deceptively conducted, violates federal housing law and will promote racial segregation . Defendants in the suit include 3CDC, the city of Cincinnati, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the new management of the Metropole...

COUGH IT UP residency at the Comet for June 2016

Image
Some of my friends started a new hardcore band called COUGH IT UP and it's just sick.  When they started it, they told me that they weren't limiting what kind of hardcore they were playing and that whatever influenced them would come out and they'd experiment with it.  The result was fresh (and so clean, so clean), original hardcore that people like so much, they were given a residency before they'd even put anything out!!!  Of course, they were working on a demo (at Ultrasuede, no less), but it didn't come out until after the first residency date.  Anyhow, I would strongly recommend checking out their demo and going to at least one of their residencies.  If it makes a difference to you, they have former members of MONITOR LIZARD and current members of FLESH MOTHER, ROOM 101, COELECANTH, and several more.  I mean, Eric and Tyler have been in a lot of good bands, so I'm only listing their current ones... haha Stream their demo, The Symptoms , for free...

GASSED at the Rake's End in Cincinnati, OH (5-30-2016) Cell phone photo taken by me Nice to see some of this coming out of Central Kentucky nowadaze.  The dudes in GASSED rule and as evidence of that, they made their demo a FREE download.  You can't even pay for it if you want to!  Check it out here: https://gassed.bandcamp.com If you want more, here's a video of their sick set at the Rake's End on 5/30/2016: GASSED @ RAKES END 5/30/2016 from milknit on Vimeo .

SULFURIC CAUTERY at the Rake's End (5-30-2016)

Image
This poorly-shot cell phone video is of Dayton, Ohio goregrinders SULFURIC CAUTERY at their recent show with Six Brew Bantha in Cincinnati.  I made and uploaded it.  It's absolutely ridiculous on purpose.  Their drummer Isaac was (is??) in HYPEREMESIS.  Ryan, who plays guitar, has been in a lot of sick bands from Dayton, like CHOKING and also does harsh noise.  They've got two split tapes and are going to be on a four-way split LP.  The first split tape is with METASTASIS and BUTCHER M.D. It's out-of-print from the label, but you can still get a copy from one of the bands.  SULFURIC CAUTERY's tracks from it were uploaded to youtube here .  Their second tape is a split with MONTE.  The bands have that in-stock, too.  The four-way split LP has one track up on youtube as a preview .  I think the email for the band is sulfuriccautery@gmail.com

What you might have missed last night (Last Fest III - Night 1 of 2)

Image
Divtech cover of Dystopia's "Hands That Mold" at Last Fest III at the Rake's End (Cincinnati, Ohio).  According to Robert Inhuman, a version of the cover will appear on the B-side of a 7" released through Hirntrust, a label from Austria.  That 7" will be released sometime maybe at the end of this year as a follow-up to the full-length LP that literally just came out on Realicide Youth Recordings, which you can order here and listen to here .

Something that will always make me laugh

Some of the old band names from Amphetamine Reptile Records.

Culling the herd...

Signs a noise rock band might not "rock out" very hard: They have six members, one of who's a saxophone player and one who's a keyboard player. And they're on every song. Things I would like to see less of: The words "garage psych surf" together. Garage rock. Noise rock bands who try to sound like the Jesus Lizard.  Have you ever heard of  Amphetamine Reptile Records?  They had some good bands. Getting stoked on a doom metal band and then realizing they stole all their riffs from Electric Wizard.  Either go back to the source or come up with new material.  You're killing me, people... Funeral doom bands with "satanic" or black magic-themed lyrics.  Look, I'm listening to you because I'm sad, not out of some fascination with "evil poetry".  Maybe if you weren't into being "evil", you wouldn't be misanthropes?  Just a thought. Death metal bands throw...
