Culling the herd...

Signs a noise rock band might not "rock out" very hard:

They have six members, one of who's a saxophone player and one who's a keyboard player. And they're on every song.

Things I would like to see less of:

The words "garage psych surf" together.

Garage rock.

Noise rock bands who try to sound like the Jesus Lizard.  Have you ever heard of  Amphetamine Reptile Records?  They had some good bands.

Getting stoked on a doom metal band and then realizing they stole all their riffs from Electric Wizard.  Either go back to the source or come up with new material.  You're killing me, people...

Funeral doom bands with "satanic" or black magic-themed lyrics.  Look, I'm listening to you because I'm sad, not out of some fascination with "evil poetry".  Maybe if you weren't into being "evil", you wouldn't be misanthropes?  Just a thought.

Death metal bands throwing in weird shit as a gimmick on a song or two.

Overproduced "melodic hardcore".  What does that even mean?  It sounds weird and it sucks.  Especially if it's like early Bridge 9 shit or Lifetime.  At least Shai Hulud used to be good... haven't kept up with Paint it Black...

The misogynistic strain of pop punk.  You assholes would be playing hair metal in the 80's if you were born earlier.

Punk bands influenced by blink-182.

Angry dope boys in the neighborhood during the summer.  GO AWAY NOW.

Burger Records.

Things I was looking forward to, but ultimately disappointed me:

Grunge's comeback with "the kids" when I hit thirty.

Another site replacing Myspace.

Growing up is painful:

Earlier this year, I realized that most early grunge was a blatant attempt to sound like the Melvins.

Something I haven't gotten sick of (yet):

Bands ripping off Godflesh.

Profound Lore Records.  Don't know how long it'll take before they decide to be as commercial as the "big four" indie metal labels, but I'm enjoying their output quite a bit now.
